Read MoreIt was such a joy to photograph something so special. I talk all the time about how I want to be the capturer of special, unforgettable things. To some, while this event may not have been a big deal (compared to say, a wedding or birth) to them, it was the world. This family had not seen their elders in 8 years. To their daughter, it was 8 years without her parents. To their granddaughter, it was also 8 years. To the three babes that played on the playground near where we were photographing, it was the first time they met their great-grandparents. Four generations! That's pretty special. I don't care who ya are.....that's special. I knew it from the moment I got that email in my inbox from their granddaughter who arranged it as a surprise. EEEEEE!!! <3 My heart melted!

Read MoreGood Morning, friends! Today's post is another installment of the Adventures in Film series! I recently uploaded a post with my new Canon Elan IIe + Portra 400 + TheFINDLab! Those portraits were DA BOMB. Like, I fell in love with film 100%. This roll was probably my first roll of Portra 400 out of the pack. It was also in the Olympus auto camera from one of the first Adventures In Film posts! I think the quality of Kodak's finest grain film really shows up here, even in a camera that could be seen as....a really bad camera. LOL. I don't mean to hurt your feelings, camera. *pats the Olympus*
Read MoreI love a clean, white frame on an image. There is something about the lines and shapes of a minimal frame that makes my insides giddy! If you're looking to add a finishing touch on your images, then this video may be for you! I am using Photoshop Elements here, so this video may not apply to you if you are using a different editing program. But it should be applicable to any Adobe Photoshop version. Do you have any requests for more tutorials of this nature? I am having a blast doing this so gimme your Adobe related requests and I would love to make a video out of it!
Read MoreThe force of social media is so relentless these days. It's hard to scroll the feed and not want what someone else has. Or rather.....what someone else has staged. Does that mean that they don't have that "thing" either? Or if they do, it's only for a second, for a moment. Sometimes the truth of one of those images shines and you see that someone curates beauty that they see in the world around them. But still, when we spend so much time, even the truth of those images is warped and we find ourselves longing for something someone else has. We find ourselves coping with the falsity that what we have isn't good enough because it doesn't fit the parameters of "trendy".
Read MoreHappy Monday! I hope your day has been filled with plenty of coffee, productivity, and inspiration! Mondays sure can bring fresh beginnings and inspiration. I'm very excited to add to my canon of video content by sharing an editing session with you. The theme of this video is improvement. You can always learn and grow. So I'm revisiting my well-loved Psalm 47 session from earlier this year to edit according to my current style.
Read MoreToday I'm reporting from day 3 or 4 of dark, rainy, stormy, WINDY weather. I've been barricaded inside for the past few days and while there are moments that I love the wind and rain (like when I'm falling asleep and waking up), there comes a point when I need, no NEEEEEDDDDD some sunshine and fresh air! I think I have 12 inch long fingernails, protruding eyeballs and an ever growing humpback......
Read MoreHiya, all you Monday Lubbers! (Just kidding on the Monday lovers part. My audience would disintegrate exponentially if it were made up of people who loved Mondays.) Howd'ya like that pun? I wanted to lighten the mood a bit before the post that might not be so fun.
Read MoreHappy Friday, folks! A while back I shot the dreamiest newborn session in Jacksonville. He happens to be our nephew! I may or may not be biased. :) A few days before the session, I acquired another film camera that I was excited to use. The camera was my trusty Canon EOS Elan IIe. I've also been working my way through a box of Portra 400 so I threw a roll of that in the Elan.
Read MoreFor the past few months, I've been delving into the art of film photography in an attempt to be well read on the two forms of photography. I'd like to eventually offer hybrid film and digital services (yay!). Here are the Intro, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3 of my film adventures, as well as the original digital gallery of this session! Lately, I've been bringing my film camera along on photoshoots so I can practice. It is SO. MUCH. FUN. There's something really satisfying about hearing the shutter click and the film slide to the next frame. And then there's the waiting....oh, how I love it. I think a new romance is starting....between film and I. Don't worry, digital. I'm not letting you go anytime soon. <3
